What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise physiology is an effective intervention strategy to prevent or manage an acute, subacute injury or chronic condition. Accredited exercise physiologists are university qualified allied health professionals. They create safe and effective exercise intervention programs for the management and prevention of a wide range of conditions and health issues with a specialisation in the following domains: neurological disease, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, musculoskeletal conditions, metabolic disease, cancer, kidney disease and mental health conditions.

Exercise physiologists offer a wide range of support for behavioural management to meet specific exercise goals for people with physical and cognitive disabilities to help improve and maintain their quality of life. They also offer individualised sport specific exercise programs to improve performance using strength and conditioning to assist with athletic performance and injury prevention and management. Exercise physiologists can perform functional capacity assessments using appropriate outcome measures to monitor progress and health outcomes. When using appropriate outcome measures, it ensures the best care for our clients and helps us predict the clients who may benefit from a particular intervention.

Services that we can provide include the development of exercise programs tailored to the client’s condition, goals and barriers, appropriate health education and advice with a large focus on client wellbeing and quality of life.
