Hydrotherapy (exercise in a heated pool)

Home > Services

Hydrotherapy is physiotherapy exercises performed in warm water.

Hydrotherapy is useful when land-based exercises are too difficult and/or flare up your pain. It is useful because the buoyancy of the water offloads force and load through joints. This is important as it allows you to exercise and maintain movement in an environment where pain is reduced.

At Toormina Physiotherapy, we individualise programs specific to your condition or injury.

Benefits:

  • Musculoskeletal relaxation
  • Buoyancy of the water counters the effects of gravity
  • Increases muscle strength/endurance due to water resistance
  • Improves swelling due to hydrostatic pressure
  • Improves balance and core stability
  • Increases joint range of motion
  • Increases circulation
  • Activation and re-Education of muscle patterns

For conditions such as:

  • Arthritis e.g Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Sprains and strains
  • Post operation rehabilitation e.g. replacements and reconstructions
  • Adhesive capsulitis (Frozen shoulder)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neurological conditions e.g. Parkinsons Disease
  • Sports injuries
